The Story

Moonlight over the Gandy Bridge, the first road across Tampa Bay, on a linen card from about 1930 to 1945. George Gandy surveyed the route in 1915, and nearly 4,000 Floridians and winter visitors bought the stock that built it. It opened on November 20, 1924, two and a half miles of bridge and three and a half of causeway, billed as the longest automobile toll bridge in the world. A car paid 75 cents plus a dime a passenger, and the Tampa to St. Petersburg drive fell from 43 miles to 19. The federal government condemned the bridge in 1944 and the toll ended. This span came down in 1975; a 1924 entrance tower survives at Heritage Village in Largo.

Printed on enhanced matte paper in 10 x 8 and 14 x 11 unframed, and 16 x 12 and 18 x 12 framed or unframed.
